Tech company NoiseAware offers a line of noise sensors that only track noise, not broad spectrum audio. The sensors feed this information to servers, which then communicate the information in real-time with the customer.

One of the most immediate applications of the technology is the potential for it to be used within Airbnb properties to detect potential parties being thrown by visitors, or other potentially concerning activities.

Speculation has begun as to where else the noise sensor technology might be used, including landlords and building managers placing the devices inside properties to allow for greater scrutiny of tenants.

Smarthome devices such as Amazon’s Alexa assistant could also potentially be used for this purpose, but such plans have not been announced or implied by Amazon.
