According to the Guardian, new regulations from the Chinese government have set limits on portrayals of what they consider to be negative sexual tendencies, including adultery and gay individuals.

These guidelines ban such imagery from being used in television or videos uploaded to the internet.

The government guidelines refer to these types of relationships as “abnormal sexual relationships.”

Since Xi Jinping has risen to power, there has been a significant increase in government censorship of the arts, which also includes a ban on any depictions of the fictional character Winnie the Pooh, since Jinping has been compared to the character in the past.

Gay activists in China and around the world have had extremely negative reactions to the new guidelines, saying that they only contribute negatively to harmful perceptions of the gay community worldwide.
