In the lead up to its 2016 release, Deadpool presented us with some of smartest marketing we’d ever seen. From its trailers and viral videos, to its posters and posters, to even its momentary invasion of Tinder, the movie knew how to use its modest budget to ensure that  its fourth-wall breaking protagonist held a place in our hearts and minds.

It should be no surprise that, coming off a brilliant (if not tonally jarring) teaser at the beginning of Logan, Deadpool 2 continues to blow our minds with one of the most meta character announcements imaginable.

In case you’re unfamiliar, that’s Atlanta’s Zazie Beetz as Domino, the mutant mercenary and occasional Deadpool love affair, lying across Deadpool like a bearskin rug. If you’re not getting the brilliance at play, take a look at this early Deadpool promo image from 2015.

Deadpool

Well played Deadpool 2. Well played.
