The most recent location of Museum visits is via mobile technology or, as they are more commonly known, “mobile museums.” With over one billion people around the world owning a smartphone, it makes sense that we would now have access to all sorts of museum content anywhere at any time.

Some sites offer free applications while others ask for paid subscriptions or even credit card information before you can use their app. It really does depend on the individual site what types of features they have and how much money they want to make off of you!

However, no matter which ones you choose there are some things that remain the same – you need to connect to the internet to use them. This could be through cable or phone connections or both.

Luckily, these days wireless networks are almost always accessible so you do not have to worry about this. However, just like with our phones there is an epidemic of users being overburdened by the amount of data they use during the times when connectivity exists.

This article will talk about the different types of art apps, why they exist, and if they are worth it.

Hosts exhibitions twice a year

The museum is run by an executive director, who also works as the chief curator for special events at the University of Detroit Mercy. As such, she has to be both organized and creative in how she curates shows and events.

Her current position was announced back in May 2018 when the institution received $1 million from anonymous donors to launch its new contemporary art collection.

The new owners wanted to contribute towards creating a dialogue about social justice through their artwork. This includes pieces that address issues like racism, sexism, homophobia and capitalism.

Since then, the museum has held two solo exhibits per year with a focus on artists or themes related to social change. One focused on queer culture while another explored feminist icons and concepts. Both were well-received by critics and audience members.

Given this success, the museum plans to do it again next spring. They are already starting planning by looking into what artist they want to feature and if there are any connections between them and UDM.

Closed on Sundays

The most recent closure of the museum was in May, when it was announced that it would be closing for an indefinite period due to low attendance. This came as quite a shock to many people because this is not the first time the museum has closed down.

The museum opened its doors back in 2008 under the name “Museum Without Walls”. It was only open for three months before it had to close permanently due to lack of funding. Since then, it reopened as the “Ferndale Museum” with the goal of reopening as the “Museum without Walls”.

Sadly, just like the last time it re-opened, there have been no reports of the museum being fully funded and running out of money once again. Many believe that the reason the museum closes every year around the same time is so it can get more donations during the off season.

If you are ever in the area make sure to check out what the museum has to offer! They hold various events throughout the week which usually include art exhibitions, film screenings and musical performances.
