Game Night
Sure, there are plenty of fun things to do out on the town, but there are also times when you’d rather stay in with your significant other to enjoy some peace and quiet.
Whether you’re trying to dodge some inclement weather or just save a few bucks, there are fun games to play at home with your significant other or a small group of friends.
Here are a few fun games for couples to play at home with nothing more than a few basic household items.
The Orange Pass
This old party classic will get everyone up off the couch and moving. All told, the game should only take a few minutes to play. It’ll be sure to test your cooperation and communication skills.
What You’ll Need:
All you need for this game is 1-4 large pieces of fruit. Lemons, apples, or oranges would work best. To make the game even more difficult, you can rinse the fruit in water before starting the game.
How to Play:
Place the fruit on a nearby table or chair. Next, make sure that all players have their hands behind their backs.
If you want, you can even tie each other’s hands together to make sure that there’s no cheating.
Have one player try to bend down and pick up a piece of fruit using only their chin. Then, they have to pass the fruit to the next player, who can also only use their chin to press the fruit against their neck and chest.
If you want a real challenge, see if you can transport several pieces of fruit from one side of the room to the other, without dropping a single piece.
Celebrity Match
Celebrity Match is another fun game for couples that can work with many more players if you happen to be at a party or have a few friends around.
What You’ll Need:
To play the game, you just need a few sticky notes and something to write with.
How to Play:
Each player writes down the name of a celebrity and passes it to the other player. Neither player can look at their new note. Instead, they stick it to their forehead.
Once you’re both ready, each player gets to ask one question at a time to try to figure out who their celebrity is.
The questions can only be yes or no questions, and the other player has to answer accurately each time.
Instead of competing against each other to see who can guess their celebrity first, set a timer and see how quickly you can both guess your celebrities correctly.
The Cocktail Challenge
The Cocktail Challenge is a fun, easy, and hopefully tasty game that you can play at home anytime.
Whether you want to use alcohol as part of the competition is completely up to you. Feel free to tailor the game to your specific needs.
What You’ll Need:
Everything you need to play this game is simply what you already have in your kitchen and refrigerator. The inevitable limitations are part of the fun.
How to Play:
The idea is to try and make the tastiest cocktail or mixed drink that you can, using only whatever you can find in the kitchen.
If you tend to keep the refrigerator well stocked with bartending ingredients and materials, then you’ll have plenty of options to work with.
But if you’re running low on supplies that particular night, you may need to get a lot more creative to try and make the perfect homemade cocktail.
When you’re both finished, score each drink as objectively as possible. The creator of the tastiest drink wins.
Jam Session
A jam session is exactly what it sounds like: find some instruments and make music together.
If one or both of you are already proficient on an instrument, then you’ll find it easy to get into the groove and play a simple song, with plenty of opportunities for improvisation.
But even if neither of you are musicians, you can still have a lot of fun trying to come up with a song on the spot.
What You’ll Need:
For this one, all you need is musical instruments. You may be saying to yourself, “But I don’t have any instruments in my apartment.” No problem.
There are many different free smartphone apps that can offer basic versions of a piano or digital guitar.
How to Play:
Put together a basic melody and even come up with some simple lyrics if you’re feeling adventurous.
If you’re having trouble thinking up a melody of your own, you can stream one of your favorite songs from a phone or nearby computer and play and sing along as best you can.
Don’t be shy! Your partner will appreciate your fun-loving side that isn’t afraid to be embarrassed.
Guess the Show
This is an easy, improvised party game that you can play with just two people, or as many as 15 or 20 people at a party.
What You’ll Need:
The best way to play this game is to have access to a television and a remote with a random function.
But if you don’t have television service, you can also play using a streaming video website like YouTube.
How to Play:
One person will choose a show and another person will close their eyes or face away from the screen and try to guess which show is playing, as quickly as possible.
That’s all there is to it. If you’re playing with a television and happen to choose a channel that’s on a commercial, we recommend switching to another channel that’s in the middle of a show.
This helps the pace of the game stay fast and cuts down on confusion for the player trying to guess the show.
To make it more competitive and lively, try to only choose shows that you both like to watch and are already familiar with.
You may be surprised how long it can take to figure out which show you’re hearing, without the help of the visuals.
