The field of liberal arts is typically defined as “the fine arts, literature, language, history, and/or political science” but there is no standard definition that every person who studies these subjects agrees with. Some only include English, French, and Spanish in their list of ‘fine arts’ while others include music, sculpture, painting, or anything else they feel fits under that label.

Many students enter college with an interest in studying art, humanities, or social sciences but few people choose to pursue those major courses of study after freshman year. This is because most colleges offer lots of different majors, some more focused on specific areas like business, education, or nursing, and some broad ones like psychology, sociology, or anthropology.

Students may be discouraged from choosing one of these hard major routes since many employers look for candidates with a degree in either the bachelor’s level humanistic fields like philosophy, economics, or journalism or the masters’ level ones like public administration, educational leadership, or marketing. These are sometimes referred to as professional-level degrees or even advanced degrees.

Luckily, all of these academic disciplines have direct applications in the workplace so graduates can pick which career path to take depending on their goals and dreams. It is also important to note that although these programs do not directly prepare you for a job in academia, many professors and leaders in related industries are looking to recruit well-educated professionals with these skills.

English language

As mentioned before, the field of liberal arts is quite diverse and depends on what definitions you put to it. But one thing that almost all departments have in common is the emphasis on the importance of the English language. This makes sense because anyone who studies humanities or social sciences will likely take at least a few classes where the students are reading and/or writing for extended periods of time.

This frequent exposure to the English language gives students practice using vocabulary, grammar, and syntax, as well as understanding how to communicate clearly. For this reason, most universities consider proficiency in the language to be a prerequisite for graduation.

However, this does not mean that students do not need to learn other languages while studying these subjects. On the contrary, many professors require at least some knowledge of another language to truly understand their field.

There are several reasons why having a working knowledge of a second language is so important, but the main one is career development. Almost every profession requires at least a bachelor’s degree, if not higher. With more than half of our population living in an online community format, employers look closely at student engagement to determine whether or not they can count on them.

Political science

Politics is arguably one of the most important topics to study in this world. After all, no matter what kind of government you have now, or what country you live in, politics will always be an integral part of life.

Whether it’s our own personal lives, relationships, communities, nations or even civilization as we know it, everything changes with politics.

Politics can be described as the art of influencing other people through persuasion and motivation. Nations are run by powerful politicians who use their influence to gain power for themselves and promote their ideologies.

Liberalism and socialism are two major political philosophies that focus on opposing viewpoints of what type of society we should have. In liberalism, individuals are encouraged to believe that each individual has unique strengths they can bring into the world, and that it is up to every person to create their own path towards happiness.

Socialists disagree and emphasize unity over diversity. They believe that since everyone is like them, then we should work together instead of helping those who are different than us.

Given these opposite extremes, it is easy to see how much conflict politics can cause. Many wars were started due to a lack of understanding or respect for the beliefs of others.
