The original Destiny was met with a strong love-hate polarity. Fans of narrative and mission variety were let down by the game’s rigid and repetitive structure, while lovers of the classic formulas of MMORPGs (or Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing Games) loved its challenging raids and varied loot.
Now, in a new trailer, it seems like Bungie is trying to meet fans half-way by keeping the abundance of guns, armor and power-ups, but throwing in more character and narrative for good measure. Directed by Jordan Vogt-Roberts (director of this year’s Kong: Skull Island), the video begins with a wise-cracking narration by the robotic Cayde-6 (voiced by the ever-wonderful Nathan Fillion) and dives into an impressive, high-octane array of pre-rendered footage.
Since the humor in the last game was hilariously unintentional, this seems like a step in the right direction. Of course, we’ll have to wait for the game’s September 6 release to see if it meets expectations.
